Africa's Biggest Street Carnival

Calabar Carnival as we already know is the biggest street Carnival in Africa.
It was introduced in 2004 by the then Governor of Cross River State:  Donald Duke and is celebrated every 27th December.
Although other states in Nigeria adopted  the idea of carnival, Calabar Carnival remains the biggest and best street Carnival in Africa with over 50,000 people participating.

Last year seemed more like a naked Carnival but this year the costumes were less revealing and just amazing. The event started by noon with the various  bands (Passion 4, Masta Blasta, Freedom,  Seagull and Bayside) parading throughout the streets of Calabar in their colourful and glamorous costumes, and ended in the early hours of the next morning with Masta Blasta band emerging as winner and Passion 4 and Seagull emerging as 1st and 2nd runners up respectively.

Top celerities ( Funke Akindele,Uti Nwachukwu, Ini Edo, Nkem Owoh, Tonto Dikeh, Ajumoke Nwaeze, Oge Okoye and others) were spotted at the carnival and of course the founder of Calabar Carnival:  Donald Duke got the attention of the crowd as he paraded in his scooter -bike with his lovely wife.
It was as experience to remember and i do not regret traveling all the way to Calabar to witness it, and just in case you missed this year's Carnival i advise you start planning towards attending the 10th Calabar Carnival in 2014 cos i will be there as usual. *wink*
